May started her career at the Robert Fielding School of Hairdressing on Dean Street, W1, where she passed with Distinction. From there she took the L’Oreal Advanced Colouring course which inspired her love of colouring.

She then went onto Jingles International where she advanced in cutting and creative perming. She opened her first salon in Walthamstow where she quickly built a large client-base and after a couple of years she won a franchise with Saks Hair and Beauty. This allowed her to flourish with their advanced training programmes in Long and Bridal hair which led to regional and national competitions for experienced and junior staff. Creative hair shows and Ladies indulgence days in local hotels, and photographic work followed.

At Saks, May also had intensive training in the many aspects of beauty therapy. Makeovers were May’s next big challenge in hair and make-up, assisting a photographer – some of her work was copyrighted and used in promotions! After that she acquired the leasehold for Haircraft, where her client-base has grew and allowed her to transform the shop into what is now May’s.
